VCSU Education and Technology

Welcome to the VCSU Education and Technology site. These pages document the efforts of the VCSU Teacher Education program to diffuse technology throughout the curriculum. The core of this effort is the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS*T) developed by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).

Since 1996, VCSU has been a notebook campus. All students and faculty have a notebook computer. Most classrooms are wired for student and faculty Internet access and have video projection systems. Multimedia stations located throughout campus allow students to scan, digitize video and more. Information technology is ubiquitous on campus. VCSU has thus created a democracy of technology, giving equal access to all students and faculty.

Within this environment, the VCSU Teacher Education program has made significant progress in preparing future teachers to use technology effectively and appropriately in their classrooms. All students are required to complete a digital portfolio of their abilities in order to graduate. The university has adopted a set of eight abilitiesPDF Document that students must demonstrate in their portfolio. The Teacher Education program has adopted an additional four abilities based on the model of a teacher as a knowledged based decision maker. Students must include five of the eight university abilities and all of the Teacher Education abilities in their portfolio.
